Tai Peng, 2024
Acrylic on approx. 18x18mm tile.
Includes signed certificate of authenticity.
Tai Peng, a quiet village nestled at the top of a hill on Lamma island. This was the artist’s first village she ever lived in, having been in cities all her life. It was where she discovered even taking the rubbish out to the bins could be the most beautiful thing in the world.
—
Discarded tiles wash up on Hong Kong’s beaches. Their former glory of house decoration and protection is now a lightly buffed memory. They are alone now, gently washed with the current. Little fossils of recent community, found and repurposed as canvas. Secret souvenirs holding current* Hong Kong scenes.
*At time of painting.
